Ossuary and Les Eparges

I took a good friend, who has been visiting us, from the UK, to The Ossuary at Douaumont (Verdun).
A memorial to the soldiers who died during the 300 day Battle of Verdun. 230 000 were killed out of a total 700 000 casualties. Beggars belief.
Underneath the main building are the remains of 130 000 unidentified soldiers from the battle.

We also visited Les Eparges another battle site close to Verdun.
My wife’s Grandfather fought in both these battles and was wounded three times.

Both are moving and sobering places.
